5 Skincare Myths Busted
When it comes to skincare there is a lot of mixed information out there, especially online. Because of that, it can be overwhelming trying to decipher what information is actually helpful and what may just be a fad or a viral trend. Today, Jane is going to clear up some of the most common skincare myths she’s seen in her 40+ years in the industry.
5 Skincare Myths Busted
1. You don’t need to moisturize an oily skin… false!
Not true. Oily skin can become dehydrated. An oily dehydrated skin simply means it lacks moisture. Often people will try to dry out their skin with sudsy cleansers or use products that will strip the skin of its natural oils. This changes the pH of your skin and stimulates the oil gland causing your skin to go into hyperdrive, producing even more oil. It can also create a dry surface with oil trapped underneath. What you want to do is balance your skin by using an oil cleanser. Using an oil cleanser promotes the slow down of oil production in the skin, helping to regulate natural oil production. Then you want to moisturize your skin with a product designed specifically for oily skin like our Tomate Creme.
2. You need an extensive skincare routine to see results… false!
I don’t believe that at all. My philosophy is that less is always more! If you have products that support your skin, you do not need a vanity full of skincare. The most important thing is a good cleanser. A cleanser is a must as it helps to establish the pH, so the skin can work properly. You should also have a moisturizer specific to your skin type. And finally, a natural clay to be able to detox your skin once a week. Work with your body, not against it.
3. Using a Gua Sha doesn’t actually do anything… false!
Yes it does. Gua Sha is an ancient technique from Chinese medicine and is very good for stimulating lymphatic flow. It will help improve overall firmness, boost circulation, and depuff your skin. It’s a great practice to incorporate into your skincare routine a few days a week.
4. Face oils will clog your skin and cause breakouts… sometimes!
There are certain oils that will absolutely do that, so you need to make sure you’re using the right kind of oil, like jojoba or grapeseed oil. This is why we created our line of treatment oils. Each oil was designed to treat a specific skin concern and improve the health of the skin. For example, we developed Face Oil No. 4 for oily, acne-prone, or congested skin. The ingredients in this particular oil help balance and promote clear skin. On the other hand, we created our Face Oil No. 1 with ingredients meant to nourish dry, mature skins. Each one of our Face Oils is intended to be used on particular skin concerns.
5. You need different products for your morning and nighttime skincare routines… false!
I do not believe in having separate routines or needing “night creams.” The goal is to get your skin healthy. When you build a routine using the right products, you can use them both day and night. You don’t have to worry about your skin feeling greasy or having ten layers of product on. Our simple 3-5 step routines are perfect for any time of day.
I hope this helped clear up some skincare questions you may have had. As always, if you have specific skin concerns or questions, we highly suggest booking a Discovery Consultation. We want you to feel confident in knowing how to properly care for your skin!
