Mindful Beauty & Eating

I would like to thank everyone who was able to make it to our last event. There was a lot of helpful information and I hope you were able to go home feeling confident and comfortable with your new knowledge about food, eating, and taking care of your skin and health.

If you weren’t able to make it, the information Eva gave us on mindful eating was simple, but fabulous! We have summarized it here, but I encourage you to reach out to Eva, follow her, and learn about having a healthy relationship with your body and your food.

Follow her on Instagram or shoot her an email, she'd love to hear from you!

Mindful beauty is all about being aware of what you put on your skin and body. I recommend you start by reading labels and discard any chemical laden products. If they have strong scents, chances are they are full of synthetic fragrance, which are often associated with petroleum. Petroleum based ingredients are bad for our health because they prevent us from absorbing fat soluble vitamins such as Vitamin D and A.  Learn to read labels. Find a brand you can trust. When it comes to following a mindful beauty routine, my most important tip, is to keep it simple. Use simple ingredients, and simple, yet effective products, with a philosophy you can live with. You only need to do 6 steps during the week.

Step 1. Cleanse

Every morning and night, you should cleanse your face with a good, natural, pH balancing cleanser. Younger, acne skins can use oil cleansers (Clear Skin or Cleanser No.3), while more mature skins will benefit from a milk cleanser (Mild or Deep). Always make sure there are no chemicals in your products and never use a surfactant. Surfactants will strip your skin of nourishing oils and the skins first line of defense.

Step 2. Balance

If you’ve ever enjoyed a facial at janegee, you’ll be familiar with the oils we use to balance the energy of the skin. Our Balancing Oils stimulate microdermal circulation, bringing nutrition up to the skin, and taking away waste via the lymphatic system. This internal detox will work wonders for your skin’s tone and texture. You can find these in the janegee Facial Kit, or individually. Yin Oil is a cooling oil designed to be applied to any areas of the skin that are red. Yang Oil is a heating oil that should be placed on any congestion and areas of the skin that aren’t red. These oils can be used together or separately depending on your skin condition.

Step 3. Mineralize

This is such an important step in anyone’s routine. The skin needs its full complement of minerals in order to hold hydration. We lose minerals through sweating, especially post exercise, so it is wise to replenish these minerals. We recommend doing this at least once per week depending on your skin condition. Re-mineralize the skin with our Marine Mask, Face Oils, and Floral Waters. Marine Mask is pure, unadulterated Bladderwrack from the pristine waters off the coast of Tasmania, and it’s one of our favorite products. It brings the blood to the surface, which feeds the skin and prevents signs of aging. A common reason for dry skin is a lack of minerals. The Marine Mask will load your skin with minerals and antioxidants, making your skin look and feel smooth, supple, and beautiful.

Step 4. Detox

It is also important to detox your skin with natural clay every week. A natural clay mask will help pull out all the pollution in your skin, which can also help prevent premature aging. We absolutely love clay masks at janegee. They are the best way to deeply clean and detox the skin. When clay is mixed with water, it becomes electrically charged, and binds with the toxins in your skin. When the clay is washed off, the toxins are washed off with it. Depending on your skin type, you could benefit from Pink, White, Green, or Olive clay. Premature aging and pigmentation can be attributed to the chemicals in the environment. Especially if you live in an urban environment. The chemicals floating around in the air are finer than the pores of your skin and are readily absorbed causing all manner of issues. Especially premature wrinkles. By detoxing the skin with clay, those chemicals are pulled out, leaving your skin clean, fresh, and healthy.

Step 5. Treat

If your skin needs an additional treatment,  you can support it with a janegee Face Oil or Elixir. Not everyone needs a treatment oil, but if you struggle with signs of aging, acne, dryness, excess oil, redness, etc., you could benefit from adding a Face Oil to your routine.

Step 6. Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin helps to keep the pH balanced and lock in all the lovely moisture deep in the underlying layers of the skin. Regardless of your skin type or condition, a healthy moisturizer is a must! janegee Vitamin Creme is one of the best moisturizers, adding in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals all designed to keep your skin moist, plump, happy, and healthy.

The important thing to remember is that there are as many skin types as there are people. Your skin is as unique as you are, and it needs to be treated that way. Additionally, a routine that works for you during one season might have to be adjusted as the weather changes, ie. increase hydration during the cold, winter months, change Face Oil’s in the spring or fall, etc.

To avoid signs of aging, you need to feed your skin. Your skin is fed by the nutrients in your blood.  You can promote blood flow by exercising, and by using products that promote microdermal circulation. Here at janegee we offer a solution to keep all skin types healthy.

While it’s important to be aware of the ingredients you are placing on your skin, it’s also important to be aware of  what you are putting into your body. Your skin will be healthy on the outside, if you are healthy on the inside! It’s important to have a good relationship with food and understand that you are eating it for a purpose, you need food for energy - it is in fact a fuel.

Feed your skin with good, clean food. Know where your food comes from. I don’t care if you’re paleo, keto, vegan, vegetarian, etc., just know the source of your food, and don’t stress about it. Stressing about your food is going to cause more problems. Which is also why you should avoid strict diets. Diets tell you what you’re supposed to eat for the rest of your life, and that is just unrealistic. You can allow yourself to have treats, and eat the food that brings back happy memories, but keep it at a healthy level, or find healthier alternatives. Allow yourself to eat a wide variety of food. Restricting your diet can be stressful and ultimately, unhealthy. Remember if you can’t pick it, dig it up or hunt it, then it’s not food, it’s a food product.

First thing in the morning, drink a 8-16oz glass of water. This will jumpstart your day, and help your body feel calm, and able to make smarter food decisions. Eat carbs in the morning and for lunch, rather than at dinner. You don’t need the energy from carbs before going to sleep. Never skip breakfast, it’s important to feed your body with energy for the day. You were already fasting while you were sleeping. Skipping breakfast is like trying to make car run without gas. Additionally, you also need to watch your portions. Overeating is like trying to fill a car with more gas than it can fit. Your body is not able to use the energy you’re trying to give it, so instead, it gets stored as fat. Always eat as many fresh vegetables as you can, especially for lunch and dinner. After dinner, don’t eat again. If you’re craving snacks and treats, try drinking a cup of tea. Flavored teas are a great way to satisfy your cravings late at night. Meal prep for the week to make it easier to grab meals and healthy snacks quickly, so you’re less tempted to grab unhealthy fast food.

By mindful about your beauty and eating. By adapting to the lifestyle of being healthy, and treating your body with respect, you will achieve a healthy skin, an increase of energy, a decrease of health risks, a better mood, a better sleep, and more. Investing in good, clean skincare is a way to invest in your health. By avoiding chemical laden products, you’re preventing those chemicals from entering your bloodstream and negatively affecting your health. Health, beauty, and mindful eating are all related, you should focus on each one in order to live the happiest, healthiest life possible.
