-
Focus on Eating Whole Foods - If Nature Doesn't Make it, Don't Eat it
Skincare is an inside job. Your skin is a window into your gut. There is a strong connection between skin conditions like acne, pigmentation, premature aging, eczema, and the health of your gut. If you’re noticing your skin is acting up, it’s important to look at what you’re consuming and to be mindful of how it may be affecting your body.

Try This Natural Remedy for Treating Dark Circles
Due to the skin-healing vitamins in potatoes, a potato compress is fabulous for relieving tired eyes, soothing, and reducing puffiness. Potatoes are rich in water and can stay cool for long periods of time. This is what helps the nutrients get absorbed into the skin. Additionally, the cold temperature of the potato compress works to constrict the blood vessels, lowering swelling and inflammation.
How to Make a Potato Compress
Step 1: Freeze an organic potato overnight
Step 2: Slice the cold potato in the morning before using it
Step 3: Apply the slices on closed eyes for approximately 10 minutes
This quick and easy natural treatment is a great trick to help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
-
Eat Foods That Will Help Your Skin Glow
Increase red and yellow veggies such as sweet potato, carrot, butternut squash, red peppers, and citrus. You should start seeing a difference in about 6 weeks.
-
Incorporate Foods That Help Balance Hormones Into Your Diet
Cruciferous vegetables, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and brussels sprouts are all amazing detoxifiers. They help clean the liver and are particularly important for balancing hormones. Onions and leeks are also great for helping the liver process toxins out of the system.
-
Help Fight Fine Lines With Your Diet
Incorporate dark leafy greens, spinach, kale, or watercress into your meals. They are excellent sources of magnesium and are especially good for fine lines around the eyes.
-
Practice Dry Body Brushing
Dry body brushing, a practice dating back centuries, offers many benefits for your skin, from boosting circulation to aiding in lymphatic drainage. It is a simple yet powerful technique that involves using a natural bristle brush to gently brush the skin.
How to Use a Dry Body Brush:
Step 1: Make sure your skin is completely dry
Step 2: Start at your feet, moving up the legs on both sides using firm, but gentle brush strokes
Step 3: Continue working from your arms toward your chest, and then your back
Step 4: On your stomach, brush in a clockwise circular motion
Step 5: Follow with a warm shower and your favorite moisturizer to lock in all of your hard work
Pro-Tip: Always make three long strokes toward your heart, avoiding any back-and-forth, or scrubbing motions.
-
Practice Positive Self-Talk
Learn to speak to yourself as you would others, with kindness and love. Reframing the way we speak to ourselves can dramatically improve our self-confidence, and when we feel confident, it shifts the way we carry ourselves through the world!
-
Start Using Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil packs have been known to improve liver detoxification, and ovarian health, support uterine health, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. Some people even notice better sleep, less pain, and improved skin conditions.

Never Go To Bed With Makeup On
We can’t stress enough how important it is to remove your makeup every night. Doing so is vital to keeping your skin healthy and performing its best. And be sure to always follow up by washing your face with a natural treatment cleanser.
-
Toss the Makeup Wipes and Switch to a Natural Makeup Remover
Makeup wipes are often full of synthetic chemicals that can irritate your skin. They also don’t completely clean your skin like you may think. Using a natural makeup remover is a much easier, more effective, and gentler option for removing your makeup. To make the switch, we recommend using our popular Fresh Eyes Makeup Remover.
-
Never Skip Washing Your Face at Night
Washing your face with the right cleanser is the single most important step in keeping your skin healthy and glowing. Washing your face removes dirt, oil, and any other unwanted debris, while also balancing the pH and keeping your acid mantle intact. When you skip washing your face, your skin stays covered in dirt and grime and can often become unbalanced, preventing it from functioning properly.
-
Never Reuse a Dirty Face Cloth
As we just mentioned, washing your face is the most important step in your skincare routine, so don’t accidentally sabotage your efforts by reusing the same washcloth. Be sure to always use a fresh, clean one. Shop Jane’s favorite linen face cloths here.
-
Avoid Foods That are High in Sugar & Carbs
When you eat foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates, your body's insulin levels increase. This causes your pores to secrete sebum, a greasy substance that attracts bacteria. Your skin cells will also be encouraged to multiply. All of this creates the perfect environment for acne to grow and flourish.
-
Start Your Day with Some Sunlight
First thing in the morning, within 5-15 minutes of waking, expose your eyes to the sunlight. Go outside and view the sunlight. If the sun is bright, look towards the sun but not directly at it. Do this daily for about 5 minutes.
Important note: Viewing through windows will not work and be sure to avoid wearing sunglasses. Our bodies need as many photons as possible in the eyes. This will activate your circadian rhythm, helping improve your sleep.
-
Scrub Your Floor, NOT Your face
Contrary to popular belief, you should never manually exfoliate your skin. Face scrubs and other harsh exfoliants can cause lasting damage to one of the most important layers of your skin, the acid mantle. This layer of the skin, when healthy and intact, acts as a barrier to bacteria, viruses, and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. And remember, pollutants are often smaller than the pores of our skin, so it’s important to keep your acid mantle healthy to reduce your overall toxic load.
-
Detox Your Skin Weekly with a Natural Clay Mask
Detoxing is a vital step in maintaining healthy skin. It helps remove impurities, pollutants, and dead skin cells, ultimately bringing your complexion back to its healthiest state. Our favorite way to detox the skin is by using a natural clay mask once a week. Clay Masks work wonders because they are made of natural, mineral-rich clays that become electrically charged when you add water to them. Because of that, the clay will draw up any heavy metals, dirt, and debris from the skin and wash them away.
-
Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Protein
We all need protein! Protein is vital for tissue repair and helps keep your skin, hair, and nails healthy and strong. Make sure to choose grass-fed, organic, and local when possible.
-
Use Discernment When Reading Product Labels
Unfortunately, many brands try to draw consumers in by labeling their products as green, natural, eco-friendly, or clean when they are actually full of synthetic ingredients. This is what is known as greenwashing. Because of that, it is crucial to be aware of what ingredients are in the products that you’re putting on your skin and the potential effects they could have on your health.
-
Exercise Daily
Exercise, even a simple walk, can help move your lymphatic system. As your muscles contract, they help pump the lymphatic fluid around the body. Regular exercise will help the fluid flow more efficiently throughout the system, resulting in better detoxification channels.
-
Create a Daily Meditation Practice
Meditation allows us to turn inward. To pause and listen. To connect to our senses, breath, and body. Meditation reduces stress & anxiety, sharpens the mind, improves energy, and so much more. And when we give ourselves space to become aware and mindful, we begin to shine from the inside out.

Enjoy the Benefits of a Detox Bath
There’s nothing quite like a nice, warm bath on these chilly winter days. Following Jane’s Detox Bath Protocol once to twice a week, regardless of the season, can aid in soothing sore muscles, softening the skin, and detoxifying the body.
What You’ll Need:
-
2 cups of Epsom Salt

1/2 cup of Baking Soda

Ten drops of Lavender Essential Oil

Step 2: Follow with a practice that will make you sweat (e.g. wrap yourself up in warm clothes and then jog or move the body for a few minutes (alternatively, get into a warm bed and allow your body to sweat)
-
Prioritize Getting Adequate Sleep
Daily recommended sleep ranges from 7-10 hours per night. Although, you know your body best. Pay attention to when you wake feeling rejuvenated and when you’re operating at your best. Adequate sleep also allows our body time to rest and digest, reduces stress, prevents unwanted weight gain, and produces growth hormones that regenerate cell renewal for healthy hair, skin, and muscles.
-
Avoid Foaming Cleansers
A common misconception is that you should be using a sudsy foaming cleanser to get your skin squeaky clean. However, you should stay far away from these cleansers as they strip the skin of its natural oils, causing it to go into hyperdrive by overproducing oils. So, what cleanser should you be using? Depending on your age and skin type, you should look for a natural oil or milk cleanser. Oil cleansers are wonderful for younger skins that are often oily and/or have acne/congestion, while milk cleansers are usually better for more mature, normal, or dry skins.
-
Protect & Hydrate Your Skin
During the cooler months, it's crucial to help your skin get the hydration it needs. Two of our favorite ways to boost hydration is by adding a serum and a treatment oil into your routine. After cleansing, apply our Elixir Corrective Serum to balance and hydrate your skin. Then, before moisturizing, apply a few drops of one of our Face Oils to help protect, revitalize, and moisturize your skin. These two products are an incredible combo to brace your skin for going out into the frigid air.
-
Spend Time in Nature
Connect to the beauty of the outdoors. Nature has a way of calming the mind. Being outside can improve happiness, spark creativity, reduce stress, and leave us feeling oh-so-refreshed. So get outside when you can!
-
Add a Gua Sha Massage to Your Routine
Did you know that incorporating a Gua Sha facial massage into your skincare routine can help promote lymphatic drainage, improve overall firmness, & boost circulation? Gua Sha is an ancient technique from Chinese medicine that is incredible for stimulating lymphatic flow. It’s a great practice to add to your skincare routine a few days a week.
-
Ditch the Toner
Toners are an unnecessary step in your skincare routine. In fact, many toners contain alcohol, which acts as a drying agent and upsets the pH balance of the acid mantle. If you are looking for an extra boost in your routine, we’d suggest adding a Floral Water. Our Floral Waters are pure hydrosols that will replenish your skin and add much-needed minerals, without the drying effects of alcohol.
-
Simplify Your Skincare Routine
Here’s the thing, you don’t need a million different products to achieve healthy, glowing skin. By using a few good quality, natural products, your skin has what it needs to do the work for you. What if we told you your routine could be as simple as 3 products? Simple and effective skincare routines exist and work! The most important thing you can do is to build your skincare routine by using products that suit your skin’s individual needs. After all, no two skins are alike! We highly suggest taking our brand new selfie-skin quiz to discover the perfect routine for your skin’s needs.
-

-
Make the Switch to Clean Makeup
As much as we love makeup, we don’t love many of the ingredients used in products by many popular commercial brands. Since the FDA doesn’t require makeup companies to acquire approval for any ingredients in products before selling them, it is imperative to be an informed, conscious consumer. You have to be the one responsible for knowing what you are putting on your skin. Some of our favorite clean makeup brands include: RMS Beauty, Minori, Lily Lolo, SOSHE, and Zuzu Luxe.
-
Incorporate More Gut-Friendly Foods Into Your Diet
Be sure to get your daily prebiotics in. Foods like onions, leeks, Jerusalem artichokes, dandelion leaves, asparagus, chicory, and bananas help feed the good bacteria. Eat them daily and your good bacteria will multiply, potentially prompting big changes in a week.
